Shiraz Red Wine Rolf Binder Heysen 2004 is outstanding with ripe fruit flavors, balanced tannins and a clear varietal character. This Shiraz red wine is one of the flagships of Rolf Binder Wines. Comprising of 98% dry grown Shiraz and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Heysen is named after the Heysen trail that runs through the vineyard. The red grapes are from their own Veritas Estate Vineyard. The Shiraz are predominantly from the Heysen Vineyard, with a sandy soil profile, and also from the Stephanie and Western Ridge Vineyard of sandy loam. Rolf Binder Heysen 2004 Shiraz red wine features a medium to deep cherry black color. With a pronounced ripe aroma, it gives a cascade of complex earth and fruits. A lovely palate that even though is soft, it has plenty of weight as it drifts easily over the palate. You can drink this extraordinary red wine now through 2014, even though the tannins will allow further aging. Only 1,000 cases produced.

Rolf Binder has become one of the most famous and sought after winemakers in South Australia, and is credited by many for putting many Australian wines on the map. His parents entered the Australian wine world in the mid 1950's, shortly after immigrating from Hungary. Rolf and Christa were raised in this enviornment and learned the art of winemaking from their earliest days. Rolf is the winemaker for several premium brands, and a consultant for many others. But only one brand crafted at his Veritas Winery bares his own name.
RATINGS: 93 Points - Wine Advocate - Robert Parker
"The backward 2004 Shiraz Heysen, aged 20 months in a combination of American and French oak, possesses a dense purple color as well as rich notes of blackberries, licorice, creosote, and camphor. This dense, full-bodied, ripe, powerful Shiraz includes 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, which is impossible to detect. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 12-15+." Score: 93. —Robert Parker, October 2006
93 Points - Steven Tanzer
"Good ruby-red. Knockout nose combines black raspberry, strawberry, licorice, black pepper, chocolate and cinnamon, along with an intriguing minerality. Dense and thick but fresh, with a sappy, saline quality giving grip to the sweet, fleshy fla vors of raspberry, chocolate, eucalyptus, charred oak and exotic spices. Finishes peppery and very long, with sweet, fine tannins. Impressive."
