Sherry wines from Spain are among the best. Gran Barquero Oloroso Sherry is aged for 15 years in oak barrels. This Spanish Sherry has a warm mahogany color, the nose is suggestive of aromatic wood and dried-up fruits on the nose. Excellent structure and strength on the palate, this wine has an elegant and long finish.
Proclaimed as one of the best wineries in Spain, Perez Barquero S.A. is renowned for its excellent grape variety, Pedro Ximenez. In the vineyard, grapes are carefully planted and harvested via selection of the best parcels of ground. In the hills of Andalucia, just south of Cordoba in D.O. Montilla-Moriles they make fortified wines using the Pedro Ximénez grape. These wines share the same production techniques as Sherry from D.O. Jerez further south and are rated as the best wines made in this region. Gran Barquero Oloroso is dark amber colored with light raisin-like sweetness. Serve it alongside a flan or other custard dessert.

"100% Pedro Ximenez grapes; aged 15 years in oak. Medium-dark amber. Lovely notes of rich butterscotch, caramelized almonds, orange zest. An irresistible bouquet of great depth that isn’t matched by the medium dry palate of roasted hazelnuts. Finishes with a touch of phenolic bitterness."

Tasting Note: This wine ratchets up the intensity of Oloroso Sherries, dry with flavours of walnuts, hazelnuts and raisins with just a touch of smoke. There is good richness here within the dry flavours in a softer slightly more forward style.
Food recommendation: Either to accompany sweet desserts or at tea time as traditional consumptions but also suitable with tasty meats and strong cheeses and at any time.
