a French Rose Wine, Chateau De Pennautier Cabardes Rose 2007 has a vivid pink color that matches the petals of a rose. The aroma is very fresh with hints of red fruits, red berries, raspberry and blackcurrant with a hint of licorice. The taste has a lot of fruit and minerals, and is smooth and lively. This French rose has a delightful freshness. It has a dry, elegant finish.
In 1620 Bernard de Pennautier, the Treasurer of the State of Languedoc, set the first stone to an elegant 17th century style castle. Today, Pennautier is still one of the most precious building of the region. Pennautier's vineyards have sustained nine generations and has become Vignobles Lorgeril just after World War I, through the wedding of Paule de Pennautier and Christian de Lorgeril, Nicolas' grandfather. In 1967 a huge re-plantation took place from the bottom of the hill towards the highlands of the Cabardès. This was an important turn in the history of the family estates and the quality wines are the result. Cabardès is a tiny appellation between Minervois and the city of Carcassonne not far from Corbiers. Though the vines are planted on land similar to that in Minervois, the climate here is noticeably different, being cooler with a little more rainfall. Indeed Cabardès almost qualifies as a region of the South West rather than the Languedoc and the grape varieties reflect a climate that is as much influenced by the Atlantic as by the Mediterranean. Château Pennautier is an estate producing a complete range of wines.
