Australian Shiraz Rolf Binder Heinrich 2004 is an estate wine. Heinrich is named after Rolf Heinrich Binder, father and founder of the Rolf Binder family winery. This wine was created because of his love of the combination of the three classic Barossan grapes – Shiraz (Syrah in other countries), Mataro (Mourvédre) and Grenache. The Australian Shiraz comes from the Stephanie vineyard and the Mataro from the Chri'ro vineyard, both of which adjoin the winery, and the Grenache comes from the Western Ridge vineyard at Gomersal. This Australian wine was blended for taste and style, utilizing the body and strength of the Shiraz, the ripe confectionary fruit of the Grenache and the fine earthy tannins of century old Mataro. The Australian Shiraz blend has a brilliant crimson color that is very bright, almost glowing, and pales a little at the rim. It has a pure fragrant aroma that at times is floral, and violets come to mind, but also showing warm climate richness and ripeness. Rolf Binder Heinrich 2004 on the palate is much more delicate than that of Australian shiraz and builds gradually in the mouth, and finishes with satisfying, delicious fruit and fine tannins.

"A big, densely coloured, opulently flavoured Rhone blend, loaded with sweet blackberry, plummy fruit. Overtones of pepper from the mourvedre. Slightly pruney and borders on jammy. Well–structured, too: an excellent style." Score 93/100. Six plus years cellaring potential.
