Meritage Wine Macari Bergen Road 2001 is a premium Meritage wine that gets better by the day. This Macari family favorite is a careful blend of 75% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec. On the nose, there is a harmonious pairing of sweet vanilla bean and toasty spice. It's a Meritage wine with a balanced structure that emits intense flavors of raspberry, blackberry and dark chocolate. Mid palate, this elegant, classy Meritage is dense and full leading to a soft finish with a burst of black cherry tobacco and black tea. This meritage wine can be cellared for a couple of years or you can drink it now, with a dinner of filet mignon or lamb. It is pure New York State Meritage delight. Only 672 cases produced.

Macari Vineyards, located on the North Fork of Eastern Long Island in Mattituck, New York is owned and operated by the Macari Family. What were once potato fields and farmland has become a vineyard of 180 acres of vines with additional fields of compost, farmland, and a home to cows, goats, Sicilian donkeys and ducks. Macari is on the cutting edge of viticulture and is dedicated to a more natural approach to winemaking. Joseph Macari, Jr. is recognized as a pioneer in the movement towards organic and sustainable farming on Long Island, employing principles of biodynamic farming since the vineyard’s first plantings. Extensive soil preparation, rich composts, careful cover cropping and a consideration to wildlife and terrain makes Macari's 180 planted acres stand out from the rest. Taking into account the health of the environment as a whole, and moving away from the harmful effects of pesticides to a more natural and meticulous caretaking of the soil and plants, ultimately yields premium wines.

RATINGS: DOUBLE GOLD - New York Wine & Food Classic

RECOMMENDED - Newsday
"Macari Vineyards sends wine lovers a Valentine with the 2001 Bergen Road. The rich red blend is made only in vintage years, and this is the fourth from the Mattituck winery. It stands up in fine company. Macari's 2001 meritage is composed harmoniously of 75 percent merlot, 23 percent cabernet sauvignon, and 2 percent malbec. This balanced, well-structured Bergen Road is loaded with blackberry and raspberry flavors. There are notes of vanilla and spice and a hint of tea. Expect the red to age gracefully. When you're ready, serve it with roast lamb, roast beef, roast duck."

"This merlot-based blend gives off a faint rosewater scent over flavors of red cherry and plum. The texture is lean and peppery; for shaking beef."
